DUP and Sinn Féin voters – their view on a new Stormont agreement

In early January 2020, and before the outcome of the present talks, LucidTalk (LT) carried out two individual NI-Wide polls of

  1. DUP VOTERS ONLY – i.e. those who had voted for the DUP at least once in the past 5 NI elections, not inc. the recent Westminster election (& exc. Local government elections). – responses: 1,007 polled.

  2. Sinn Féin VOTERS ONLY – i.e. those who had voted for Sinn Féin in at least once in the past 5 NI elections, not inc. the recent Westminster election (& exc. Local government elections). – responses: 1,023 polled.

LT have all the above data already stored on their systems, so LT are able to target specific voter bases in sufficient volume to be able to produce NI representative polls for specific voter bases, and other demographics (e.g. 18-30 year-olds only in NI etc..).

The results are enclosed below: There were three DUP poll Qs – put to the DUP voter base, and four Sinn Féin poll Qs - put to the put to the Sinn Féin voter base. The ‘extra’ Sinn Féin poll Q covered their current abstentionist policy regarding Westminster.

The first three poll Qs for each of the DUP voter base, and the Sinn Féin voter base, covered the Irish Language Act - ILA (1st two poll Qs), and Poll Q3 covered what outcome would respondents (i.e. both DUP and Sinn Féin voters) like to see from the current talks process.

The last poll result below, are the leader ratings for Arlene Foster, Michelle O’Neill, and Mary Lou McDonald - DUP and Sinn Féin voter respondents were asked to rate each of 'their' leaders either Excellent, Fair, Neutral, Not good, or Very Bad. The ratings shown were calculated by totalling the 'Excellent' and 'Fair' scores, and subtracting the total of the 'Not good' and 'Very Bad' scores - for each respective leader. Neutral scores are ignored for the purposes of calculating leader ratings. This is the standard way Leader ratings are calculated e.g. Trump, Corbyn, B. Johnson etc.

All the detail of the poll Qs, the technical polling information, and all other details, are as what is shown on each of the enclosed results graphics.
